I was waiting in Christopher's room for him to finish brushing his teeth so we can read and I hear him call out of the bathroom, "Mom, I filled that thing up all the way in bathroom. Come see it." Being lazy, I tell him to just tell me what it is. He says, "It's that snowman face thing that has the big hole in the top of it." Huh? As I rack my brain to figure out what I Christmas type thing I put in his bathroom. Oh yeah, most people call those things cups...

Team names
Payton is doing a project at school where they formed teams. The teams had to come up with a name. Their team name is "Fire Breathing Rubber Duckies." And their motto is "We'll burn your face off!" I love it!

So that's where the ink goes
Payton decided she needed a green piece of paper. Instead of coloring a piece of paper or finding some construction paper, she opened up Paint on the computer, filled in the page with green, and then printed it! I told her it was funny in a "never do it again" sort of way. And I always wonder why I'm so low on ink. Although I have to admit it is pretty resourceful.

It's not that cold
Payton came home from school today all mad that they didn't get to play outside in the snow today. Apparently, the magic number in IN is 10°F. In MN, the magic number is 0°F. She was very disappointed.

But I'm working
Ron came home from work early and is on the phone with his friend, Craig. You can tell they are talking about random non-work related things. I am still working and am on the phone for a meeting. Payton comes comes in my office, even though the doors are closed, and asks if she can have something to eat. After frantically pushing my mute button, I tell her to go ask her Dad. Her response, "He's on the phone." Smh.....

My Sorority House
I've decided that when you daughter hangs out with you in the bathroom as you shower and get dressed that it must be like what I imagine hazing is at a sorority house. Mom, why do you have that spot there on your leg? Mom, your belly is jiggly. Mom, why do you have moles? Mom, why do you get dried off in the shower? Mom, ....

The Battle of the Winter Coat
It seems like I go through this every year with the kids. We woke up this morning and it was 34 degrees out. Definitely winter coat weather. The problem with this time of year is that by recess it will be in the 50s and the kids definitely won't be wanting to wear their winter coats. This year, Christopher was perfectly happy to wear his winter coat in the morning and just pack his jacket in his backpack to wear for recess. Nice, easy peasy. It must be really cold at 7:05 am at his bus stop.
Payton, on the other hand, was a completely different story. When I told Payton she had to wear her winter coat, she broke down in tears. And then the arguments started. Granted the root of all this comes from the fact that she really wants to wear the fleece coat that her Daddy got for her. I understand. She's attached to it. However, Payton did not go for the idea of packing it in her backpack. That just started another argument because she thought I said packpack and it's not called a packpack. Her best argument for me was that I might as well just tell her to wear 99 pairs of pants and 1499 shirts. I thought she said 14, pause, 99, meaning 14 or 99 shirts. I tell her to go ahead and put on 98 more pairs of pants and 98 more shirts. At which point, she said, "I said 1499 shirts!" What in the world was I thinking???? Then go put on 1498 more shirts. 8 year old arguments :-)
And just because sometimes Mom actually knows what she's talking about, Payton also wanted her gloves when we went out to the bus stop. And being the nice Mom that I am, I ran back in the house to get her some.
Yay winter!

So maybe we aren't the most politically correct families
This weekend, our niece, Grace, came to visit us. It worked out pretty well. We met her parents half way to make the exchange. So it's about an hour drive for each of us. The whole family was in the car to take her back to the meeting point in Lafayette. Christopher was excited because we were going to be by the Wabash River. Grace wondered why the Wabash River was important. So Christopher started to explain based on a report he did on Indiana last year while we still lived in Minnesota. He started something like this...
"Well there was this battle that happened between the Indians and the humans...."
Wait, what? The Indians and the humans? I think we've got it all sorted out now but if you hear Christopher making some mention of Indians not being human, just quietly correct him. :-)

What? No toilet paper
As were getting ready to move to the new house, I was gathering stuff up to pack in the car so it would be readily available in the new house. As I was packing toilet paper, Payton said, "They wouldn't sell us a house with no toilet paper!" Yes, honey, they would and they will. The joys of a brand new house.

A New Level of Waiting
Took Payton into the dressing room to try on a dress. Must have been too much for Christopher to handle. We came out to find him waiting for us like this on top of the benches.

Blowin in the Wind
Yesterday, as we were all getting in the car, the wind blew some papers out that I needed. As I'm running like a crazy person after them, Payton turns to Ron and says, "Should I throw some more paper out?" Little stinker! For some reason, this reminded me so much of something my Dad would say.

Mmmmm.... Bacon....
Payton told me this morning that she loves bacon more than all the cute animals in the world. Considering her love of all things cute, this is saying quite a bit.

What a Valentine's Day
It's been a heck of a Valentine's Day. We started out the evening at Urgent Care when Christopher tried to chop off his thumb with his pocket knife. Turns out he's fine and we left with a really expensive Band-Aid. Then we took Payton, who was tired and cranky, to her gymnastics lesson that she didn't really want to go to but would have cried about missing later. We didn't get dinner until 8. Finally, we are home to relax.

Blowing snow
The wind has been blowing the snow around like crazy today. This has given birth to 2 new words in our house. Christopher calls the blowing snow "snow tornadoes" and Payton calls the blowing snow "snow ghosts."

Cold days
Today and tomorrow the kids don't have school because the temperatures are around -20 with wind chills in the -40s. Brrrrrr. Christopher says it's not a snow day though since we didn't get any new snow and they can't go out and play in the snow since it's so cold. I'm still working as much as I can. Perk (???) of working from home. I'm sitting in my office and I hear this Payton say this to Christopher, "We should make a list of the stuff we want to do today. What *do* you want to do today? Besides party." I'm getting nervous for her teenage years.
Although we a cooped up in the house, we did manage to do this:
Boiling water
And this:
